About This Project:
Stichler Products, Inc. had recently acquired ownership of NECCO's candy chew lines. They had reached out to me to update the graphics. I was asked to remove all NECCO logos, add in 'The Original' on both the Banana Spilt and Strawberry Shortcake candy chews for both the candy labels and the candy tubs. I was also asked to update piece counts and other related legal information within the NLEA. The Strawberry Shortcake graphic also needed an update that was similar in graphic style to that of the Banana Spilt. Shortly after, I was asked to apply these graphics to a 4 oz peg bag dieline for both candy chew flavors.
Challenges:
The owners of Stichler did not want much of the original graphics to change so that it kept its nostalgic appearance. The candy chew labels were also difficult to layout initially due to their size and the amount of information required to be on each piece.
Solution:
After discussing the vision the owners had for the candy chew's new look, I was able to adjust a few minor details that helped refresh its look without losing its nostalgic feel. Using Thirsty Script to create 'The Original' text above each logo, helped to add new modern flair to each design. Condensing the typeface on each candy chew label, allowed all of the relevant information to fit within the allotted spaces without losing its legibility. Overall, this was a fun and interesting project to work on and I was happy to be a part of bringing back such a loved old-fashioned candy to the market again.
